People living in Kurow and its surrounding area are invited to have their say on the future of the town, at a public meeting on Saturday.

Called by the Waitaki Valley Community Society, the meeting follows the formation of a working group which hopes to involve residents in smartening up the town and developing plans.

Teacher Donna Smith and businessmen Steve Hotton and Calum Reid, who is also on the Ahuriri Community Board, are behind the meeting in the Kurow Memorial Hall starting at 1pm.

The plan was partially prompted by the Alps 2 Ocean cycle trail from Mt Cook to Oamaru, which will pass through the Kurow area.

The meeting will hear about a design plan prepared by Lincoln University design student Emma Mulholland as part of a thesis, view the proposed Meridian Energy Ltd north bank tunnel concept power scheme plans and hear from Waitaki District Council Ahuriri ward councillor Craig Dawson about how the council can work with the community.
