The Fortune Theatre and Southern Sinfonia received some good news just before Easter.
The Otago Community Trust announced donations last week of $45,000 to the Fortune and $55,000 to the sinfonia.
"The Fortune Theatre is a city icon, providing a venue for local, national and international theatrical production," Otago Community Trust chief executive Keith Ellwood said.
"They not only entertain audiences, but develop the skills of performers, theatre practitioners and writers at all stages of their careers. The trust's donation will support the delivery of the 2011 programme and enable the Fortune to provide quality, live theatre while contributing to the growth of performing arts in the region."
Southern Sinfonia manager Phillipa Harris said the donation would support a programme of activities, including a chamber music tour to primary schools in the region and an academy to prepare young players for the Dunedin Youth Orchestra.
The Otago Community Trust donated $840,200 to 35 organisations in April, including $120,000 to Presbyterian Support Services, $75,000 to the Otago Medical Research Foundation, $67,500 to Outward Bound and $60,000 each to the Dunedin Methodist Mission and Anglican Family Care.
