Twin fire appliances attended a call-out to the Clutha District Council headquarters in Balclutha this morning, after fire alarms were triggered.

About eight officers from the Balclutha Brigade entered the premises in safety gear about 10.15am, but quickly established the alarm had been set off by a power cut caused by a fallen tree in the nearby neighbourhood of Rosebank .

Officers confirmed there was no danger to staff or property about 10.40am.

At midday, a council spokeswoman issued a notice saying the office was still experiencing "multiple technical issues" due to the incident, and was running on limited power supplied by generator.

The phones were switched to "after-hours" until the network was up and running again, the notice said.

The power has since been put back on and services have returned to normal.

The incident followed an earlier power outage at nearby Wilson Rd, where lines fell due to high winds about 9.45am.

Electricity network provider Powernet was working to repair the Wilson Rd fault at 10.10am, and no outstanding outages were recorded on the company's online noticeboard as of 12.30pm.
