Southland residents will need a permit to light fires from Wednesday due to an elevated fire danger and long range outlook.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand made the announcement this morning via their Facebook page.
People wishing to apply for fire permits are being asked to visit www.checkitsalright.nz with all permits being reviewed on a case by case basis.
