Hill City-University top club at meeting

Hill City-University has won the Hurring Relays meeting.

It finished on 104 points, edging Taieri on 92 points on Thursday evening at the Caledonian Ground.

Taieri held a 50-48 advantage in the female results, but Hill City-University’s men claimed a comprehensive 56-42 win over their closest rivals.

Caversham and Ariki finished third and fourth respectively.

HCU did most of its damage in the track relays, claiming victory in both men’s and women’s races in the 4x200m and 4x800m events.

Taieri claimed three of the four individual wins.

Zharna Beattie and Hamish Mears took first in the women’s and men’s shot put, while Felix McDonald won the men’s long jump.

HCU claimed the other individual win through Stacey Gunn in the women’s long jump.

There is no track and field meeting today due to Labour Weekend.
