McDonald racks up three wins

It was a good day for Felix McDonald on Saturday.

The Taieri athlete claimed three victories at the Caledonian Ground on the second week of the summer athletics season.

His most comprehensive win came in his strongest event, the long jump.There he jumped 7.12m, well-ahead of second-placed Cameron Miller, who managed 6.28m.

McDonald also claimed the 100m-200m double.He ran a sharp 11.21sec to edge Nathan MacDonnell, who was second in 11.30sec, before also edging the Hill City-University runner in the 200m race in a time of 22.63sec.

The 100m also produced a close finish between the two fastest women.Hill City-University’s Sophie Napper claimed a tight first-place in 12.32sec, pipping Aspiring’s Laura MacCulloch by 0.01sec.

In the 1500m Gregor Findlay (Aspiring) and Josh Hou (HCU) both put on strong display, Findlay edging ahead by two seconds in 4min 12.50sec.

Ariki’s Sarah Langsbury won the women’s under-16 80m hurdles in 12.30sec, before jumping 4.94m to win the women’s long jump.Taieri’s Hamish Mears impressed in both the discus and shot put with throws of 43.15m and 13.69m respectively.

Dyani Shepherd-Oates (Fiordland) also had good outings in the hammer and shot put, managing 47.36m and 9.40m.
