Fete boosts St John coffers

St John Wakatipu is $3300 better off after its first "Olde English Summer Fete" on Sunday.

Ambulance officer and co-organiser Chris Marr said more than 1000 residents enjoyed the food and atmosphere of the English countryside-style fundraising community event in picture-perfect weather.

Area committee members have decided to spend half the money raised on ongoing operating costs for the non-Government funded emergency service.

The other half will be spent on a new replacement high-pressure water blaster, to clean ambulances returning from jobs at Coronet Peak and the Remarkables during the winter, area executive officer Lynn Cain said.

The "Olde English Summer Fete" was likely to return next year, in possibly the same location beside the ambulance station in Frankton, as everyone was keen to do it, Mr Marr said.
