Rugby: Three seeking ORFU posts

Otago Rugby Football Union board member John Walker is standing down, and there will be three men chasing two positions on the board.

Under the board's constitution, two independent members are up for re-election this year, and interviews will be held by an appointments committee next week.

Walker is not seeking re-election but board member Dave Callon is standing again, along with two other candidates.

ORFU chairman Wayne Graham declined to name the two other candidates but said they were two Dunedin businessmen. He was pleased with the calibre of candidates who were prepared to stand for the positions.

Interviews would take place next week with an appointments committee led by board members Dick Bunton and Laurie Mains.

Otago Cricket Association chief executive Ross Dykes is the independent member of the appointments committee.

The committee will make a recommendation to the board, which is then expected to rubber-stamp its decision.

The Metropolitan Rugby Council is also expected to appoint Taieri club member John Hammer as its representative to the board, along with its chairman, Andrew Rooney.
