As a storm lashed Auckland yesterday members of the public, including children, fought to rescue a dolphin at a city beach.
Two adults and two children were supporting the dolphin in the water when police arrived to help, Radio New Zealand reported.
Efforts were made to encourage the dolphin out to sea as heavy rain and strong winds lashed Castor Bay.
Department of Conservation staff arrived and the dolphin was put on a trailer so an attempt could be made to encourage it back out to sea at another location.
