It has not always been a picnic out in the middle, particularly for visiting bowlers during the reign of the great left-hander Bert Sutcliffe.
But Carisbrook holds a special place in the history of Otago cricket and the association wants to acknowledge its significance.
The venue hosted its maiden first-class match between Otago and Tasmania in February 1884 and there have been 252 first-class matches, 46 one-dayers, 21 one-day internationals and 10 tests at the ground.
With the development of the University Oval and the Forsyth Barr Stadium, the grand old lady is nearing obsolescence and its future is unclear.
The Dunedin City Council owns the venue and has not made a decision about the site.
The OCA will say farewell by hosting a lunch on the field and will also use the occasion to acknowledge those players named in the Otago Daily Times Best XI.
Otago stalwarts Stephen Boock and Warren Lees, both of whom were named in the Best XI, will give speeches and share memories.
It is OCA's intention to have as many of the Best XI present as possible.
"This promises to be a memorable day in the history of Otago Cricket," OCA chief executive Ross Dykes wrote.
"It is a genuine opportunity to acknowledge a venue and a group of players who have formed such an integral part of our association's history."
The ODT Best XI comprises: Glenn Turner, Bert Sutcliffe, Craig Cumming, Ken Rutherford, Roger Blunt, John Reid, Lees (captain), Neil Mallender, Alec Moir, Frank Cameron, Boock, Gren Alabaster (12th man).
