The Queenstown Lakes District Council has approved fee increases of up to 68% for parking at the Church St underground car park.
Motorists who use the Queenstown CBD car park now face a 60% increase in all-day parking charges and a 68% increase in monthly parking charges after the council infrastructure services committee on Tuesday carried the recommendation from transport manager Denis Mander.
There will be a 20% increase in charges for short-term parking from $1 for 30 minutes to $1.20; a 60% increase in all-day parking, from $5 to $8; and a 68% increase in monthly parking, from $110 plus GST per month to $151.67 plus GST, or $35 per week.
Mr Mander said Wilson Parking, which has operated the council-owned car park since 2000, wanted to give the public at least one month's notification of the price rises and the new charges would probably be introduced on April 1.
