They may have endured massive blisters and serious muscle pain, but Kate Medlicott and Tim Geaney's 2300km journey will all be worth it.
The University of Otago students are walking the length of New Zealand to raise money for ECPAT Child Alert, an international charitable trust which works to prevent the sexual exploitation of children.
After watching a television programme about child prostitution last year, Ms Medlicott (22) decided to take action.
On November 15, she and her boyfriend, Mr Geaney (21), left Bluff on foot, headed for Cape Reinga.
They had made it to Brynderwyn Hills, in Northland, on Saturday. The journey was "going really well" so far, she said.
"We are not sore anymore. It's been really enjoyable."
Having suffered through their early ailments, they have relished seeing parts of the country they might never have otherwise had the opportunity to see.
Walking along the coast past Kaikoura was especially memorable, she said.
They hope to reach Cape Reinga by February 4 and have raised about $3500 for the charity so far.
