In a move designed to win support and thank the Otago ratepayers for supporting the team's new home, Forsyth Barr Stadium, season tickets will go on sale for the next three weeks at a special rate.
For less than $100, ratepayers of any council across Otago can get a ticket in the main stand at Carisbrook for all six Highlanders games.
And those fans who take up the offer will have the opportunity to buy the tickets at the same price next year, when the team is based at Forsyth Barr Stadium.
The tickets can apply to all members of a family living at the ratepayer's address.
Tickets are available for various packages, and can be paid off in weekly, fortnightly or monthly instalments. The special offer is available until February 7.
Highlanders coach Jamie Joseph, in charge of a new-look team, was right behind the ticketing scheme.
"With the membership we are asking people to take a second look and support the Highlanders," Joseph said.
"Dropping prices for ratepayers is the right thing to do. It is something that hasn't been done before. And having support at games is so important for the team."
Highlanders marketing manager Doug McSweeney said the idea of cheap tickets for ratepayers came from the Highlanders board, and was seen as a way to thank the ratepayers of Otago for creating a world-class home for rugby in the South.
The new stadium is scheduled to be ready for the Rugby World Cup game between Scotland and Georgia on September 14.
