The Sanzaar foul play committee hearing for Highlanders winger Tevita Nabura will take place today, having been put off due to the player flying back to New Zealand.

Nabura was sent off early in the Super Rugby match against the Waratahs in Sydney when, after catching the ball, he lifted his foot up into the face of Waratahs winger Cameron Clark.

After a lengthy look at the big-screen replays, referee Brendon Pickerill showed Nabura a red card.

Nabura's hearing was supposed to be heard on Sunday night, the same time as those of Crusaders prop Owen Franks and Brumbies lock Rory Arnold.

But Nabura had requested the hearing be postponed as he has returned to New Zealand. It will take place later today.

The Highlanders have remained in Australia and will take on the Reds in Brisbane on Saturday night.

Nabura is likely to face a lengthy stint on the sidelines for his actions. Though one could argue he did not set out to hurt Clark, it was clumsy and boots high in the air are frowned upon under the rules.

Nabura (25) used to play sevens for Fiji and was signed by Counties-Manukau last year where he played eight games for the union.

He is likely to be replaced in the Highlanders starting side by the returning Tevita Li.
