Police said yesterday they would restart the physical search for Mr Bates today, and were appealing for information over an image taken from CCTV footage on Monday, February 12.
The last confirmed sighting of Mr Bates was 3.50pm on Sunday, February 11, when he was seen at the Z service station on Tarbert St.
Police said that following the publication of the photograph today, they had established the person in the picture was not Mr Bates.
The land-based search for Mr Bates, comprising Search and Rescue volunteers and a police dog team, has gone ahead as planned in several areas around Alexandra today.
