The Waitaki district this week received three of a new variety of scented roses bred to mark the 125th anniversary of St John in New Zealand.

The roses are pictured being admired by St John Southern Region trust board chairman Murray Jones (left) and Waitaki Mayor Alex Familton.

The Luminos, with white flowers, will be sold to raise funds for St John's eye hospital in Jerusalem.

Mr Familton presented Mr Jones with a donation of $1687.50 from the Waitaki District Council and community to help buy a defibrillator for an Oamaru ambulance.
