Will Kindley guided North East Valley to a comfortable seven-wicket win with a hard-hit innings of 66 at Tonga Park.
The right-hander clipped two sixes and nine fours during his 65-ball stint at the crease and had his side well on course to eclipse Carisbrook-Dunedin’s modest total of 117 when he perished.
Another Kindley, brother Hunter, did the rest with an unbeaten 28 from 30 balls.
But all the hard work had already been done by Valley’s attack. Florian Schmidt dismissed the top three batsman and finished with a haul of four for 30 from 15 overs.
Declan Su’a was a touch expensive in the context of the game but nabbed three for 62, while veteran spinner Simon Murley wrapped up the innings with three quick wickets at the end.
Opener Camden Hawkins and Rhys Phillips top-scored for Carisbrook with 26 apiece, while Nathan Smith got through 10 tidy overs (one for 45).
North East Valley is undefeated in the Declaration Cup with three wins from three games.
Albion 75 lost to
Green Island 76 for three
A potent Green Island attack made light work of Albion’s batting line-up, dismissing the opponent for a paltry 75 at Tonga Park.
Veteran seamer Dion Lobb was in the wickets again. He removed both openers and snaffled a key wicket in Josh Tasman-Jones to finish with four for 30 from 11 overs.
Volts all-rounder Christi Viljoen was even more deadly with four for 10 and bowled three maiden overs during his nine-over spell.
Not to be left out, left arm quick Blair Soper picked up two wickets, as well.
Daniel Duke provided some resistance at No8 with 21 runs from 20 balls. Tasman-Jones was the next best with 17.
Otago opener Brad Wilson led the chase with an unbeaten 49 from 48 deliveries to secure an early finish.
Josh Cuttance took two wickets for his trouble but the Albion attack had nowhere near enough runs to work with.
Green Island is three from three in the Declaration Cup and will play North East Valley in a battle of the undefeated sides this weekend.
Kaikorai 203 lost to
Taieri 204 for eight
Cam McAuslan fell three runs short of a century but his knock helped set up a two-wicket win for Taieri at Brooklands Park.
He stroked 14 fours and two sixes on his way to 97. Kaikorai had posted 203 and Taieri had slumped to five for two in reply.
But McAuslan teamed up with Jerrym Frost (32) in a much needed partnership of 93 to get the innings back on track.
McAuslan found more support from Otago pace bowler Warren Barnes, who scored a valuable 38. Both got out with the target within reach, leaving the tail to complete the win.
Otago opening bowler Jacob Duffy burst back into form with five for 48 to help keep Kaikorai in the game.
He also had a good match with the bat, smashing 61 from 44 balls to help put a competitive total on the board.
Kaikorai had been limping along at 64 for five before Rhys Bayly gave the innings substance with 79 from 143. Duffy’s knock injected the momentum.Brad Frost was the pick of the Taieri bowlers with four for 30. He picked up the wickets of both Bayly and Duffy.
