Doc staff moved after more than 20 years from cramped offices above Shotover St in central Queenstown to the upper floor of the Cavell's building on the Morningstar Beach Recreation Reserve in Arthurs Point on Friday.
The visitors centre will stay in Shotover St.
Doc business programme manager Mary-Anne Cameron said the department would have office space in the same location as the workshop and rural fire store, which would make the daily logistics of the department much easier and more efficient.
The open plan office space has been refurbished to Green Star 5 standard and includes realignment of the front of the building and a lifting of the old sloping roof.
As part of the voluntary Green Star accreditation, the improved building includes geothermal heating, enhanced insulation and recycled eco-tiles on the floor.
The move was part of a wider development of the Morningstar Beach Reserve, which will involve tracks, landscaping, a public car park and interpretation of the site's history.
Doc shares the reserve with Canyon Swing, Queenstown Rafting, Shotover Jet and the Cavell's Café, which has itself just undergone a major renovation.
