
The campaign targets recreational boat users who are not carrying or wearing lifejackets and those who speed on the water.
QLDC harbourmaster Marty Black said there would be "No Excuses" bays within the district being patrolled on five days over the next two months.
"If you’re picked up, there’s only one thing going to happen: you will be ticketed."
Under the QLDC navigation safety bylaw, infringement notices are about $300.
Maritime NZ director Keith Manch said the Maritime Transport Act, and council bylaws, required boat users to carry and wear lifejackets.
The 5-knot rule was in place within 200m of the shore and divers, and within 50m of swimmers and other boats.
Other councils taking part in the initiative are the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Hawke’s Bay, Greater Wellington and Canterbury regional councils, the Tasman and Marlborough district councils and the Nelson City Council.
