Southern United’s futsal team is not panicking, but it knows it needs to perform.
Halfway through the national futsal league, it is two points outside the top four, having managed two wins and a draw from six games.
The playoff spots remain wide open in a close competition and some positive results this weekend would help put Southern in a strong position.
It is set to play Northern, WaiBOP, Hawke’s Bay and Auckland in Wellington and coach Darren Hart is hoping to secure at least nine points.
"Really, it’s in your own hands still," coach Darren Hart said.
"We’re only halfway through in terms of number of games played.
"We’re now getting into that situation where we really need nine points from this tournament at least, and then nine points from the second one, which would put us in the top four relatively comfortably.
"But we just need to match what Palmerston North are doing each time. They’re two points ahead of us right now in fourth.
"It certainly doesn’t help us, but I’d say we’ve got plenty of games to get back into it, so there’s no reason to panic.
"We’ve just got to go out there and perform in those important games."
Hart said it had been a difficult time of year for the team with university exams and holidays disrupting preparations. However, it was as ready as it could be and had worked on its intensity and cutting mistakes out of its game.
