Senior Fire Officer Clayton Andrews, from the Clyde brigade, said the fire broke out about 2pm in McPherson Rd, near the Road Metals Earnscleugh quarry. Quarry workers went to the scene immediately and started stripping the ground with a front-end loader, while two fire engines from Alexandra, a rural fire engine from Clyde and a rural tanker from Clyde got on their way.
By the time the first fire engine arrived, the fire was out and the other appliances were turned around.
The fire measured about 20m by 20m. Mr Andrews did not know the cause of the fire, but he reminded people that long days and hot conditions would make fires more likely.
Firefighters left the scene about 2.40pm. This fire was the second scrub fire in Alexandra this month.
