Cardinals, Dodgers continue to dominate competition

The two front-runners continued their dominance in the latest round of club softball.

Two comprehensive wins enabled  Cardinals to maintain their unbeaten record against Ellis Park and Old Boys, while  Dodgers remained unbeaten for the season.

Cardinals won their first game of the day 9-2 over Ellis Park, pulling away in the fourth inning after a close start.

Ben Moody and Mark Christian gave Cardinals the lead in the second, before Jacob Wedlock and Aranui Croft both tied things in the bottom of the same inning.

However, they were unable to get on the scoreboard again and indeed struggled to get anyone on base.

Will Bathgate added a third for the Cardinals in the next inning, before they drove in another four in the fourth.

Mitchell Finnie and Moody each scored in the fifth to allow Cardinals to pull away to a convincing win.

In the late game, Cardinals held Old Boys scoreless as they claimed a 7-0 win. Finnie scored three times, as the side managed three runs in the first innings as well as two in each of the third and fifth.

Dodgers piled on the runs early to beat Old Boys 16-8 in a high-scoring affair.

Seven first-inning runs gave  Dodgers dominance from the outset, although Old Boys were able to hit back with two of their own.

Dodgers added three through Tom Snow, Liam McLister and Jack Stuar in the second inning, while Snow and McLister again scored in the third, alongside Matt Watts.

Old Boys were held scoreless throughout both, although after the Dodgers scored two more in the fourth, they were able to claw into the deficit.

They managed six fourth-inning runs, although the Dodgers remained comfortable, as Stuart added another run to finish off in the fifth.
