Licensing trust meeting postponed

The Oamaru Licensing Trust has had to postpone its public annual general meeting because it was not advertised correctly.

The annual meeting was set down for 6pm last night at the Kingsgate Brydone Hotel, but yesterday trust chairman Ali Brosnan announced it had to be postponed until next month.

Past annual meetings have attracted little or no attendance, but this year's was expected to be of more interest because of the $512,000 loss recorded in the 2009-10 financial year, compared with a $282,000 loss in the previous financial year. Most of the loss was due to increased depreciation on its new Northstar complex in north Oamaru.

The Otago Chamber of Commerce has issued a notice to the trust of questions it wanted answered at the annual meeting relating to the loss, cost of interest and future profit/losses.

Chamber chief executive John Christie, in a letter to the trust also sent to the Otago Daily Times, said the questions had been prepared on behalf of chamber members.

They included how the trust planned to finance any refurbishment and deferred maintenance on the Brydone Hotel and whether it was getting good value for money from management fees of $161,316.
