Two Otago Daily Times sports reporters have won significant awards this week.

Alistair McMurran has been named New Zealand bowls writer of the year for a fourth time, and Adrian Seconi has won the ANZ Championship netball print media award.

For McMurran, being recognised for his outstanding coverage of bowls has become a regular occurrence.

The veteran of 35 years' reporting was previously named bowls writer of the year in 2004, 2007 and 2009. No other writer has won the award more than twice.

McMurran, whose age remains a closely guarded a secret, was also honoured two years ago when he received the services to sport award at the Otago sports awards.

Seconi (39) won the ANZ Championship print award for his concise and forthright review of the Southern Steel's season.

His work was singled out from entries across New Zealand and Australia, and is particularly meritorious considering the team he covers is based in a different city.

Seconi, a member of the Otago Daily Times sports department since 2004, has previously been named New Zealand junior sportswriter of the year and National Basketball League writer of the year.
