Number of Dunedin drink drivers disappoints

Police are "extremely disappointed" after six people were caught drink driving in Dunedin at the weekend.

Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield said this number was higher than usual.

"It's out of the ordinary, six is a lot for the weekend".

Both men and women were caught, of a range of ages, the highest of which blew 713mcg.

The legal drink drive limit is a breath alcohol limit of 250 micrograms (mcg) of alcohol per litre of breath.

"That's too many people taking a risk and driving after drinking."

Drivers could expect police on the roads more on the lead up to Christmas, he said.

"Our simple message is, it's not worth the risk."
