Otago will head to Tauranga to take on Bay of Plenty on Saturday afternoon in a Mitre 10 Cup championships final.
Meanwhile, the Otago Spirit will face North Harbour at Forsyth Barr Stadium at noon on Saturday in the Farah Palmer Cup championship semifinal.
The winner of that match will take on Bay of Plenty in the Farah Palmer Cup championship final the following week. It will be hosted by Bay of Plenty.
The Otago men's team will get to play with the sun on its back at the Tauranga Domain, the home of the Steamers. The game is scheduled to kick off at 2.35pm and is one of three semifinals to be played on Saturday.
The two Mitre 10 Cup premiership semfinals will be played on Saturday, with Northland taking on Wellington in the capital on Friday night in the other championship semifinal.
Otago has played at the domain only once. It beat Bay of Plenty 33-32 at the venue last year.
Bay of Plenty used to play at Baypark Stadium in Mount Maunganui, but it moved to the smaller and more intimate domain last year for games in Tauranga. It still plays some games in Rotorua.
The domain has a capacity of 5000, but this has been increased to 6000 for the match on Saturday.
Otago would have enjoyed hosting a semifinal but it missed out by a couple of competition points to Bay of Plenty, which finished second on the ladder.
Otago Rugby Football Union general manager Richard Kinley said the union never budgeted for the side making the playoffs as it was never certain it would get to this stage.
The union did not receive anything extra for making the playoffs.
In Super Rugby, teams get a monetary reward for making the playoffs, getting paid by the hosting team, or if they host a playoff game, getting to keep a portion of the gate money.
But domestically, the reward was purely pride.
The hosting union has to pay accommodation and travel costs for the travelling team.
Kinley said he had been rapt with the performance of the side in making the playoffs.
The side won four of its 10 games, but there was only one game where it did not get a bonus point - the match against Bay of Plenty.
It ended up with 10 bonus points, which helped it into the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Kinley said any decision on the Otago coach for next season would not be made until this season finished.
Otago coach Cory Brown is at the end of his three year contract and has been linked with a move to the Highlanders.
Brown has guided the team to the playoffs in all three years he has coached the team.
