Seddon's managing director John Seddon told the Otago Daily Times most people thought of Seddon's as a restoration company and its staff were now working on restoring the Dunedin Courthouse.
Seddon's and Hush, from Christchurch, won the New Zealand Association of Walls and Ceilings Industries award before being entered in the Australasian awards.
The companies won the association prize for ceilings worth more than $500,000.
The job was detailed and Seddon's staff were on the job for nine months.
``It's a major job for us. This is a modern-looking building and had lots of aspects to it. We're pretty excited about getting this prize,'' Mr Seddon said.
Fibrous glass was seen as the most flexible product to use in a ceiling which had many tight curves.
Sometimes, Seddon's would take one cast from a mould before it was broken up, Mr Seddon said.
The ceiling was made up of layers with LED lights threaded between the layers.
``An architect drew up the plan and it was up to Hush and Seddon's to make it work. We combined well and we made it work.''
