More road cones have now been placed along the sides of Mt Aspiring Rd to stop people parking at the base of the track and a large electronic sign advising people the track is closed was installed yesterday .
When the Otago Daily Times visited the track on Monday about 15 vehicles were parked along both sides of Mt Aspiring Rd at the start of the walk, and people could be seen walking up to the summit.
To get on to the track people needed to walk around a sign telling them it was closed.
Contractors were also on site yesterday, which was not the case on Monday.
Doc senior ranger Annette Grieve said it appeared the track was still being used but anticipated once construction got into ''full swing'' the site would be well blocked off.
Additional signage and cones would be placed near the walk while contractors were working on the site, Ms Grieve said.
If people continued to ignore the signs Doc would look at additional measures to enforce the closure.
Every year the track is closed from October to November for lambing season, but this year the Department of Conservation closed the track early so work could start on upgrading the car parking at the base of the walk.
The track, which closed last Monday, will reopen on November 10.
