Under-age drinking reminder issued

Wanaka police have issued a reminder about the laws on under-age drinking after being called several times to a party held near the Scout Den at Eely Point last week, where a large number of young people were drinking.

Senior Constable Bruce McLean said there were ''quite a number'' of intoxicated 16-year-olds at the party.

''I sometimes wonder if parents know what their children are up to,'' he said.

Anyone under the age of 18 drinking alcohol at a party needed written permission from their parents, he said.

Hosts were responsible for the people attending their party and could be prosecuted under the Sale of Liquor Act if they failed to follow the law.
