Constable Tina Svensk shows some of the pink tyre valve caps Dunedin police cars will be sporting this month and next in the name of breast cancer research.

Const Svensk is selling the caps to raise money for the Breast Cancer Foundation and aims to add a touch of pink to the entire Dunedin police car fleet.

While she had no personal reason for supporting the cause, she was passionate about it, especially as there was at least one member of the Dunedin police staff being treated for the disease.

"I think everyone knows someone who has been affected by breast cancer.

"I guess I'm just passionate about it."

So far, police staff had bought enough caps to fit seven of the city's front-line cars.

Many staff had also bought caps to put on their own vehicles, she said.

The caps are part of annual fundraising drive run jointly by Firestone and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The caps, which are on sale at Firestone tyre outlets, cost $2 each, and all proceeds go to the foundation.
