Central Otago voters get two chances on Monday to hear the views of local body election candidates.
Election forums are planned in Alexandra and Cromwell.
Central Otago Grey Power is hosting a forum in Alexandra featuring the three mayoral candidates - Malcolm Macpherson, Jeff Hill and Tony Lepper - at 1.30pm in St Aidan's Church hall. The mayoral hopefuls will each have five minutes to address the meeting and will then answer questions from the floor.
The Cromwell Lions Club, Cromwell Lake Dunstan Lions Club and Cromwell Rotary have joined forces to invite all candidates vying for Cromwell votes to a local body election forum at the Golden Gate conference room, starting at 7pm.
Former Cromwell mayor Peter Mead will chair the meeting, which involves mayoral aspirants, candidates for places on the Cromwell Community Board, as well as Central Otago candidates for the Otago Regional Council and the Southern District Health Board.
Cromwell Lions Club first vice-president Greg Wilkinson said it was a good chance for Cromwell residents to hear the views of a wide group of candidates, before voting papers were posted out.
"The service clubs all get together on this, although we're all apolitical. It's a good community-minded thing for us to do, collectively," he said.
Six people are vying for four seats on the Cromwell Community Board.
•The public are encouraged to attend the Otago Daily Times and Otago Chamber of Commerce's Otago Mayoral Debate in Balclutha on Monday.
Mayoral candidates Juno Hayes, Hamish Anderson, Bryan Cadogan and Barry Keith will be on hand to discuss the big issues in South Otago.
The 5pm meeting, in the Town and Country Club, will be chaired by ODT editor Murray Kirkness.
