Caution urged after man found in flat

Dunedin police are warning students to be vigilant after female flatmates discovered a male intruder in their student-quarter flat.

The burglar was in the women’s Grange St flat about 5.15pm on Thursday, Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield said.

"A male was disturbed in the house. Police were called but we didn’t locate anybody," he said.

The male was described as a Caucasian wearing a light grey jersey and dark long trousers.

"It’s obviously a concern to us that someone has entered a residence while people were at home," Snr Sgt Butterfield said.

"We will be following up on that.

"I can’t confirm if the house was locked or not, but we would encourage people to lock their doors and windows at night and if they see anything suspicious, call police."

Nothing was taken from the flat.
