Three crews working on Aurora Energy's fast-track pole replacement programme installed three poles on Baldwin St yesterday.
Delta general manager operations and risk John Campbell said working on steep streets could be challenging and required careful execution.
''For example, we use rubber tracked excavators to lift poles when working on steep streets with greater gripping ability than steel tracks and we work off ladders instead using elevated work platform vehicles,'' Mr Campbell said.
It had planned the work so it would be completed before the Cadbury Jaffa race on July 21.
It used steel poles for the job, because they weighed less than concrete or wooden poles, making them easier to lift into position.
Three external crews from Downer and Infratec worked on the street.
While the work took place, power was cut to 66 electricity customers in Baldwin St, Calder Ave and Dalmeny St.
Mr Campbell said its fast-track pole programme was on schedule. It recently completed the 1200th pole of the 2910 identified for replacement, remediation or reassessment.
