Further arrests follow death

Six more people were arrested yesterday and another 20-year-old man has been charged with murder, following the death of a 19-year-old man after a fight in Invercargill on Wednesday night.

The man died after an assault at Stadium Southland about 11pm on Wednesday.

Invercargill police yesterday arrested three males aged 21, 19 and 18 and three females aged 23, 18 and 16. The first accused man appeared in the Invercargill District Court on Thursday and was remanded in custody.  He has name suppression.

Invercargill area commander Inspector Joel Lamb said he believed it was an isolated incident.

"Those individuals responsible are now in custody and will be put before the courts where they can be held accountable for their actions," he said.

Police said all seven people arrested were known to the victim and they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

The examination of two scenes, the stadium and a residential address, continued. A postmortem examination and formal identification of the dead man took place yesterday.
