Otago hooker Sam Anderson-Heather has been named captain of the New Zealand Provincial Barbarians.
Anderson-Heather will lead the side against the British and Irish Lions on Saturday in Whangarei in the opening match of the tour.
The Barbarians side is made up of players who mainly play at provincial level, although there are also a few Super Rugby players.
Captaincy is not new to Anderson-Heather (29). He has captained his Dunedin club side and also led Otago twice last year, against Manawatu and Counties-Manukau. He has played 47 games for Otago and will be looking to bring up his 50th game this season for the Blue and Golds.
The Barbarians went into camp on Saturday. The Lions are due to arrive in New Zealand tomorrow, about noon.
