Organised by the Heart Foundation and the Southern District Health Board, under its Healthy Eating Healthy Action programme, the demonstration was attended by 12 people from eight schools, who learned a range of recipes which suited their time, budget and space restrictions.
Heart Foundation health promotion co-ordinator Joanne Arthur said the programme had been running for several years, helping canteen staff learn new healthy recipes and approaches to feeding hundreds of children daily.
Mrs Cullen advised the cooks to use food which was in season because it was much more affordable.
