Hampden has organised its own meeting for candidates standing for the Waitaki District Council in the Waihemo area.
Invitations have been issued by Hampden Community Energy to the four candidates for the Waitaki mayoralty and two for the Otago Regional Council Moeraki constituency for the meeting, planned to be held at 7pm on September 15, in the Hampden Hall.
Waihemo ward councillor Kathy Dennison and four members of the Waihemo Community Board have also been invited, even though they were re-elected unopposed.
Hampden Community Energy chairman Dugald MacTavish said yesterday invitations had been issued to 11 candidates to attend the meeting.
The purpose was to exchange views on a range of issues of importance to locals.
"We feel that it would be most stimulating and fun if the evening was as interactive as possible - more of a discussion than formal presentations," Mr MacTavish said.
All candidates would be provided with a list of issues on arrival.
With each issue, candidates would have the opportunity to briefly give their views to be followed by questions from residents and discussion.
