Queenstown residents are being urged to ensure they lock their homes and cars after a spate of burglaries in recent days.
Offenders have targeted cars and properties in Kelvin Heights and Fernhill.
In most of the burglaries, only minor items were taken, but in one case, the thieves got away with firearms.
Sergeant Blair Duffy, of Queenstown, said police were taking the burglaries and thefts very seriously.
"All these dishonesty offences are of great concern to us. It seems, particularly at this time of the year, we see a lot of opportunistic crime," Sgt Duffy said.
Police were using many resources investigating each case, he said.
"It seems likely the cases could be connected, but we do not yet know if they are committed by one or more people."
He found it disappointing residents did not lock their vehicles and homes.
"Lock your car, even if it is in your own driveway. And lock up your home whenever you leave it. Making it hard for the criminals is the best way to avoid becoming a victim," he said.
Police are asking anyone who has seen suspicious behaviour around cars or property to come forward with information.
"The only way to stop these burglaries is to catch the offender. Anyone with information can contact police to make an anonymous statement."
