Twenty-two teams, each of three people, began hunting at 7am on Friday morning, stalking deer and pigs for yesterday's 3pm weigh-in, which was watched by about 150 people.
Beaumont Hotel managers Alison Mills and Gunnar Egilsson, who have held the lease to the historic pub since March, wanted to carry on the pub's traditions and were pleased their first hunting event was well supported by the locals.
"We had everything going for us," Mrs Mills said.
"Good weather, a good turnout and a good [atmosphere]."
Mrs Mills said in the past, after weighing their animals, the hunters had simply left them lying on the ground.
Posts and beams were erected this year and the hanging animals looked quite impressive, she said.
The heaviest boar, at 82kg, was caught by Balclutha men Caleb Leonard, Jason Payne and James Cook.
Mr Leonard said the team came across the pig at about lunchtime on Saturday, but would not reveal where they had found the winning beast.
Results: Overall winners (heaviest red deer, fellow deer and heaviest combined): Sam Barton, Alex Watson, Clayton Peters, Morgan Peters; Heavies boar (82kg): Jason Payne, James Cook, Caleb Leonard; Average boar (61kg) Andrew Moore, Shane Carter, Reon Hamilton.
