The 33-year-old female driver involved in a spectacular high-speed crash in Dunedin on Friday night is facing nine charges in the Dunedin District Court this morning.
Moments after a nose-to-tail accident at the intersection of Castle and Frederick Sts, she failed to take the bend on Andersons Bay Rd and crossed the median strip between the north and southbound lanes.
The car, in which her 14-year-old daughter was a passenger, collided with a northbound vehicle before continuing another 150m and crashing into a traffic light at the intersection of Andersons Bay Rd and the motorway.
Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said she had been charged with assaulting a police officer, assaulting a person assisting a police officer, driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or both, refusing a blood test, failing to stop after an accident, careless driving, and reckless driving causing injury.
Following the crash, she was taken to Dunedin Public Hospital where she was kept overnight before being discharged on Saturday.
She has been in police custody since then.
