A spot of drizzle did not dampen the spirits of local youngsters and families attending Queenstown Primary School's fair yesterday.

Seven-year-old India Hodge, of Queenstown, sampled toffee apples, bought a stuffed toy which she named Wolf, and also tried out the bouncy castle.

''I had a great time and I liked the lucky dip.''

Chairwoman of the Parent Teacher Association Shelley Dawson estimated the fair raised $37,000, but the final tally was yet to be done.

''It is amazing considering the weather. We are happy so many people turned up, which is fantastic.''

Activities included a chocolate wheel with prizes donated by local individuals and businesses, games, food stalls, fire engine rides, a blokes bake-off, pony rides and face-painting.

One of the more popular activities was the Harley-Davidson, police car and fire engine rides.

Ms Dawson remarked they were ''flat out all day''.

She thanked everyone who came along and said it would not have been a success without the support of the local community.

Money from the annual fundraiser will be split into three projects. One chunk will be used for a literacy and numeracy programme, a block will fund devices such as computers, and the final slice will help pay for specialist teachers, including arts, crafts and music tutors.

''It is all going back to the kids to make sure they get the best resources they can have. We are really, really stoked with the amount we have raised today.''
