Joseph, the new Highlanders coach, will coach Wellington for the last time when his side plays Otago at Carisbrook on Saturday.
Under New Zealand Rugby Union rules, coaches of Super 15 sides can not coach provincial teams.
So when Joseph was officially announced as the new Highlanders coach last month, he was effectively on borrowed time with Wellington.
At the time of his appointment it was unclear when exactly Joseph would be leaving Wellington, but it has now been decided by Wellington rugby heads the game against Otago at Carisbrook on Saturday night will be his final match in charge.
He will want to end his Wellington coaching job with a bang, making a tough task for Otago on Saturday night even tougher.
In Joseph's two years with Wellington, the side was the beaten finalist in both years.
He will be replaced by assistant coach Andre Bell, another former Otago player, with Wellington B coach Richard Watt joining Bell.
Joseph, who could not be contacted yesterday, should be in Dunedin by the end of the month and will then get into his work as he prepares the Highlanders for the expanded Super 15 next year.
Highlanders chairman Ross Laidlaw declined to comment on who the assistant coach would be but said an announcement was due shortly.
It is widely expected that Southland co-coach Simon Culhane will get the job.
Joseph was at the Ranfurly Shield challenge in Invercargill on Saturday after attending a Highlanders board meeting before the match where he outlined his plans for the future to the board.
