The North Otago Irrigation Company has appointed a new chief executive, a New Zealand woman who has just spent three years with an American biofuels company.

Robyn Wells takes up the position left vacant after the resignation earlier this year of general manager Rick Jopson.

In a few months her husband, Bill, who has a background in renewable liquid fuels and plans consultancy, will join her.

Mrs Wells, who has masters of science and business administration degrees, was born and educated in New Zealand.

Before working as executive vice-president of operations with an ethanol company converting grain to fuel in Iowa, she was with the Colonial Sugar Refining company in Australia as project manager planning and national operational roles.

The couple have a son, Jeremy, who attends the University of Otago, and a secondary school-aged daughter, Kami.
