Brazilian singer-songwriter Fernando Aragones says he hopes Wakatipu residents enjoy his music as much as the movies, when he returns to perform during the Queenstown Adventure Film Festival next week.

The musician from Porto Alegre via Sydney said he was looking forward to playing his samba-flavoured style of roots, folk and dub for all five evening sessions, after his popular debut at the 2009 festival.

The 31-year-old artist incorporates live beats and rhythms using delay pedals and a loop station to deliver his multilayered sound. He graces the festival at the end of his latest seven-venue national tour.

"I'm going to play a lot of original songs and a few covers as well," he said yesterday.

"I'm a big fan of Fat Freddy's Drop and I do a few versions of their songs."

Following his South Island tour last year, the entertainer played throughout France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, then on to Brazil before returning to Australia. Radio stations in his native and adopted lands have picked up on his melodies.

"This past year, I've been playing lots of gigs and busy with a few projects in Sydney.

"Solo gigs on guitar and sharing songwriting and on drum kit with my three-piece band, Dubbly. The album Shot From the Moon is out in September.

"I'm in an eight-piece band called Toca Jorge. We cover Jorge Ben Jor music mixed in with a few originals

"It's very uplifting, dancing samba-like music. He's an icon - he represents everything in Brazilian music."
