The Feelers take in Revolver on Wednesday, August 4, as part of the quartet's 14-date national tour.
Their unsupported two-hour show will boast new tracks and crowd-pleasing hits, including Pressure Man, Venus, Larger Than Life and Beautiful Feeling.
The Feelers' cover of the Jesus Jones hit, Right Here, Right Now, triggered controversy when it was selected as the promotional song for the Rugby World Cup (RWC) 2011, but it had been going down very well when the band played it live, drummer Hamish Gee said yesterday.
"It's odd considering the negative response it got when the Rugby World Cup ad campaign was announced - a New Zealand band covering a song not written by a New Zealander - but it was never intended to be [the All Blacks' song]."
RWC organisers "wanted to use a song that was recognisable and it's totally lyrically appropriate for the campaign.
RWC is a global event and the campaign is going out to 140 countries".
Gee said tour audiences including Queenstown would help them test new material, before selecting the track list of their fifth studio album, out before the end of the year.
"Most of it's Feelers-esque; one has an almost '80s sound we're liking, almost with a Smiths' or Killers' kind of feel. Then there's a ballad and an extremely raunchy rock song."
Gee said he and vocalist-guitarist James Reid started the Feelers 17 years ago.
The many times they had played for "absolutely mad" Queenstown crowds were "a positive blur".
"We've got a lot of family and friends down there and we'll be getting a bit of skiing in. We like to multi-task on tour."
