Work is set to start on the Heights subdivision in Wanaka, which will add more than 100 new units to the town’s housing stock.
The 10.69ha site was sold by the Queenstown Lakes District Council to Universal Developments in May last year for $15.65million, plus GST.
Jolly Earthworks has been awarded the contract for the earthworks, which are expected to start in the first week of February.
Universal Developments owner Lane Hocking said earthworks were expected to take 11 weeks and the entire site would be completed in one go.
Sections had been quick to sell, particularly the 400sq m and 800sq m plots.
"Release one we sold out almost immediately and we did release two just before New Year and we are halfway through."
A mixture of residents and people from outside Wanaka had bought the sections, he said.
Jolly Earthworks placed an advertisement in the Otago Daily Times on Wednesday advising residents near the subdivision earthworks would start soon.
Work would be carried out between the hours of 7.30am and 6pm, and the site would be managed to minimise any impact on residents.
The company acknowledged there would be some unavoidable disturbances during construction.
