Cook Brothers Construction was awarded the contract, and last June work began on the University of Otago building, at the corner of Union St and Anzac Ave.
The Dunedin study continues to examine every aspect of the health, development and wellbeing of more than 1000 study members born in Dunedin in 1972 and 1973.
Earlier based at Knox Church Halls, the Dunedin study shifted temporarily to the Barningham Building - behind the university's School of Dentistry - where it stayed for 30 years.
In 2015, the study's base moved to Logan Park Annexe, behind the University Oval.
Work on the new two-storey, nearly 600sqm building would be completed at the end of this week, and staff would move in next week, a university spokeswoman said yesterday.
