An Arrowtown resident, or one of the town’s many holiday visitors, became a millionaire at the weekend.
The Arrowtown Night ’n Day on the main street of the Otago tourist town sold a $1million Lotto Triple Dip Christmas promotion over the weekend.
Hamish Garrick, son of shop owner Alan Garrick, said last night the winner had not been back to check their ticket.
"All the staff are really excited to see whether they sold it or not."
Lotto put on 200 extra prizes for the weekend, with the ticket sold in Arrowtown the top prize.
A ticket sold at Dunedin’s Centre City New World won one of nine BMW X1 sDrive vehicles. Powerball was not struck, and rolled over to Wednesday night, when the jackpot will be $6.5million.
Mr Garrick said while a ticket that won a prize of $250,000 had been sold at the shop a few years ago, the $1 million win was the biggest he was aware of.
The shop had been "very busy" as far as Lotto sales went over the holiday season, with locals and visitors both buying tickets.
He hoped the winner would return to the shop to confirm the win: "That would be cool."
