Land has been cleared for the construction of Wakatipu's second set of golden arches, beside the Mobil service station, on the corner of Frankton Rd and McBride St, and opposite rival Burger King, which opened in November last year.
The McDonald's restaurant will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as per the resource consent granted in early April.
The outlet will include a playland, McCafe, "Drive Thru" and enclosed dining.
The building measures 533sq m and featured 155 seats and 23 car parking bays.
The franchisees for the restaurant are Mark Julian and Sarah Lucas, who also own and operate the McDonald's in Queenstown's O'Connell's Pavilion.
McDonald's spokeswoman Kelly Gunn, of Auckland, said yesterday "the Queenstown CBD is already serviced by the Queenstown McDonald's restaurant - we see the Frankton store as being complementary to that restaurant."
"The restaurant also provides a number of jobs for the area, which is a really positive thing for the region as a whole."
Construction is due to begin in August.
