After a year of planning, resource consent was recently granted and work is under way to prepare a workshop bay for the drive-through facility, on the corner of Ardmore and Brownston Sts.
"It all started because of the number of questions we got. People had expected a car wash in town ... were asking 'where is the car wash?'. That got us thinking about the sort of things we would be able to do that could be viable," Mrs Davison said.
The car wash is being imported from Italy and is due to arrive later this month. Installation should be complete by the end of the month, and the total development will cost $360,000.
The Davisons purchased the Caltex Wanaka site and buildings from Chevron last year and continue to operate under the supply agreement. They said land ownership gave them more development options.
The upgrade project includes relocating lpg tanks on Brownston St, installing an exit ramp on to Brownston St, upgrading the buildings and building a new facade.
The Davisons have also been working with the council on the design for a new roundabout at the intersection of Ardmore and Brownston Sts. Access will remain from Ardmore St.
The couple also operate the workshop next to the petrol station, in partnership with Alex and Lisa Davis, of Wanaka Towing.
